Mind Behind

Every piece carries a reason

The mind that founded Whistle, the women who carry it, and the quiet bond between them.

Our Story

Our Story

Whistle was born out of my invisible fears. It was a fear most of us know. Sometimes the threat is silent, but our instincts scream.

One day I noticed how safe carrying a whistle in my bag made me feel. Then it was by my bed, in my office, in my earthquake bag. Those plain, unlovely whistles were suddenly everywhere.

Then I asked myself, why should safety be separate from beauty? Why does self defense have to be a silent, invisible reflex? 'Why not try what has never been tried?'

That question excited me the most. The freedom to make something the world had not seen before became the source of Whistle.

Whistle took jewelry out of the realm of accessory and gave every piece a reason. The power of gold, the light of a diamond, the sound of elegance... They came together, and every piece became a purpose.

To me, Whistle stands for a posture. A posture that knows how to defend itself, told through the story of those who do it with grace. And I hope we will write this story together.

With all my heart,

What does being safe mean? Is feeling safe an emotion or a state?

Is feeling safe only physical, or does it have emotional dimensions too?

Of course. Knowing there are people we trust in our lives brings a sense of emotional ease.

Do you take routine precautions to feel safe in daily life?

Yes, my friends, my mother and I share our locations by phone, and mine is always on. My Whistle necklace and a few precious belongings are among the things I always keep with me for emergencies.

Do you have habits that make you feel at ease when walking alone?

Sometimes I pretend to be speaking on the phone. As I said, my location is always shared. I never let my phone out of reach.

Symbolic power: can jewelry, objects or rituals become armour?

Have you ever felt that a piece of jewelry or a symbol gave you strength?

Jewelry passed down through family and special pieces bought with savings carry that feeling for me. That is why I have pieces I never take off.

Three words for your relationship with your jewelry?

Talisman, value and memory.

Someone hears your voice. But how loud is it?

How was your voice in a moment of strength? And in a moment of fear?

Sometimes I freeze. Once, because of past trauma, I laughed when I was harassed. I wish we could build a world safe enough that we would not need to search for the feeling of safety.

Can you connect voice and safety for us?

Without sound, your place cannot be known. Babies cry to say, 'I am here.' Learning that stayed with me. To say I am here in this world, you need to make a sound.
